Make: Designed ready to go into production in 1939, the MG Y Series Saloons and Tourers were not produced until 1947, after World War II concluded and MG was able to go back to manufacturing cars, rather than armaments and weapons, in A and B Series from 1947 to 1953. An attractive mid-sized car with a lot of character, 6,131 MG YA Saloons, 1,301 MG YB Saloons and 904 MG Y Tourers were made in MG's Abingdon works, England. Features: For a purchase price of 650 pounds the car came with full timber lining to the doors and dashboard, a metal sunroof, independent front suspension with direct-acting rack and pinion steering and wishbone type suspension incorporating coil springing. Rear suspension involves long, flexible laminated rear springs interweaved with rubber, mounted on rubber pushes. The sturdy chassis frame and handsome 6 light saloon body seated 4 adults comfortably with adjustable front seats (moveable forward and back to the rear) and fold out armrest in the rear. Rack and pinion steering was first class and the 1 1/4 litre engine was very strong. Clutch is a single dry-plate type. Fitted with a Jackall hydraulic system with an operating cylinder situated under the bonnet near the motor - rear, front or both of vehicle could be jacked up. Fitted with Lockheed hydraulic brakes and Girling hydraulic dampers for a smoother ride. Tyre compartment is separate, below the boot, while the boot lid has strap fittings to secure additional luggage if necessary to stack ports on the open boot lid. Rear window blind is operated by cord attached to a ring near the driver's seat, enabling the blind to be raised. Engine: Four cylinder, OHV push-rod operated, with single SU carburettor Transmission: Four speed manual Road wheels: 16 inch steel-rimmed wheels Previous owners: Restored by 3rd owner Tony Collett in 1996. Fourth owner Ken Cowan, Victoria, from May 2003 to February 2006, then Jason I Roth till 11/09/07, then Kurt A Lerps of Hendra, Qld till 18/02/16.
