Produced from 1936 to 1955, the T-series represented the last of the Pre-War MGs, and the first of the Post-War models. An evolution of the PB model, it was 3 inches wider in its track and seven inches longer in its wheelbase. Most were two-seat open cars with a steel body on an Ash Frame, but it could also be had from 1938 as a Tickford Drophead Coupe with body by Salmsons of Newport Pagnell. It was capable of reaching nearly 80mph (130kph).This special-bodied Äirline"coupe is reminiscent of the Art Deco lines of the Talbot Lago "Teardrop"and Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic. One of only two verified MG TA Airlines manufactured, it came at a fraction of the cost of these, but at a $299PP it was an enormous 35 percent premium on the standard roadster body.This example, TA0355, Abingdon in July 1936 as a rolling chassis and despatched to Carbodies of Coventry for fitting of an Airline Coupe body. Presented in two-tone green it was sold to Colonel and Mrs Maitland of Hertingfordbury in December that year. From thereon, it had an interesting life, passing from the UK to the United States and into the hands of a movie producer, who proceeded to on sell it to finance a new project. Its current colour scheme was inherited in 1975, and in new Black and Gold livery, it won its class at the New England MG T Registers Gatherings of the Faithful that year.From the USA, it was back to Europe where it spent several years in the collection of a noted Swiss Collector. After 27 years "Grace" was aquired by her current owners and now resides in Regional Queensland.
