1935 Austin 12/6 Two Door Coupe

Engine: Six cylinder, water-cooled, with detachable alloy head, side-valves, four- bearing crankshaft - 1711cc capacity, originally, now 1750cc. This engine rebuilt in 2004 and in April 2018 the alloy head was repaired. Electrics: Two six-volt batteries mounted in cabin floor under seats now replaced with one 12 volt battery and system upgraded. Fuel system: Rear petrol tank of 8 gallons capacity, A.C pump (here supplemented with electric fuel pump) delivers fueel to Zenith carburettor. Transmission: Four speeds forward, one reverse, syncro on 2nd, 3rd and top. Road wheels: 16 inch wire-spoked wheels with tubed medium pressure 6.00 x 16 tyres, needing 28 psi. Body: General Motors-Holden Ltd, Adelaide - Car No FS 694/15 -this one with dickey seats in rear. Manufacturer: The Austin Motor Co. Ltd, Longbridge, Birmingham, England - chassis assembled in UK, with body built in Australia. Production: 1931 to 1937, with 30,316 units made, including 2-door saloon, 4- door saloon, 2 door tourer, originally produced with 1496cc, straight six, side valve engine, this larger 1711cc engine was available from August 1933 at no extra cost. The chromium plated radiator shell was succeeded in August 1934 by the radiator cowl painted in body colour. Here, the Australian coach-builders imported the rolling chassis with front mud-guards, bonnet and grill surrounds, then built and fitted bodies. Australia had imposed a tax on imported complete cars, in order to establish an Australian motor industry.
